Starting engine after sitting 2 yrs

I'll likely be purchasing a B that's been sitting for 2yrs. Owner says the car was running when he parked it (inside a garage, concrete floor, & engine bay appears consistent with that although no way to know for sure). I was able to hand turn the crank (about 1/8 turn; didn't try more than that) with little resistance -- with plugs in it[now that I'm thinking about it I'll probably go back & re-check as I have a nagging feeling there was too little resistance]... anway, if I do buy this car, what would you recommend I do before trying to start it? For sure I'll drain the tank & put fresh gas in & new fuel filter -- maybe even use an external tank to get it running if there's any rust evident.

Carb is a weber -- not sure if there'd be varnish build up that needs to be cleaned before trying to start the car after 2yrs or not?? Advice?

Engine -- I'll clean the plugs & ensure they're properly gapped... will change the oil... how should I treat the cylinders before trying to start it?

Anything else I should be thinking about?

Thanks in advance
Rob

Wow, that was quick... thanks jaybird!

Saw you got a '66 recently... i used to have a '67 -- it was my favorite of the ones I had(i also had a '76 & my dad had a '79)... anyway, have fun putting the '66 back together!

I can't WAIT! In fact, I don't want to wait a week or two for dahubby to go pick it up. I'm toying with going down this weekend. Since dahubby's gone til Monday and works every day (unretired) next week.

Otherwise, I have to shop at moss. And narrow down colors. And pick a name for her.

(check out the rest of Tony's website, particularly the Weimerology! He's the guy I'm --we're-- buying the '66 from)

Jaybird is absolutely right. I thought about Tony's excellent article before I was half way through your post. It was one of the first things I found when I got my B, and printed it out as a checklist. Hopefully I'll get the time to get through it soon! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I've printed it out for the Binabox.
