Do you have an alternative product for us Californians? Denatured alcohol is banned here. When I need to thin shellac, the manufacturer suggested I use acetone. Would that work with brake fluid As well ?

I had to get mine in Oregon. You could try 90+% isopropyl, not the 70% rubbing alcohol.

"The ban was about denatured alcohol when used as a solvent - degreasing, cleaning parts before painting, etc. That's the main reason it is sold in home centers and paint stores. It was banned because essentially all the alcohol ends up evaporating while there are low-VOC solvents and solutions that can do the same tasks with far less emissions."

Non-denatured ethanol is in ready supply - we have a big wine industry. Isopropanol is also in ready supply as it is for medical uses.

Everclear, IIRC, is 180 or 190 proof (90 or 95% ethanol). Also not available in California (this state used to be a lot more fun).

I'm in CA and not too long ago I bought a couple of gallons of Denatured alcohol online.
Didn't get busted for it and use it all the time.
Am I going to get a visit from the EPA?
