Weber DGV or twin SU HS4s

My engine is a european spec high compression 1500 with no emission stuff. It currently has a Weber DGV. Would it be worthwhile to switch to the twin SU setup? How does performance compare. Are the SUs more difficult to maintain/tune/adjust?

i would go with the su's. I had twin dgv setup on my tr7 and had flat spots on the power band, and a noticable hesitation if accelerating while cornering. I put on twin hs6's and like the power band better. I gave up some of the acceleration but like the power curve better. I think that su's are practically bullet proof and easy to maintain. Just make sure you get all the carb linkage.

I second the SU's, I could never get the weber to run right, regardless what anyone says about how easy they are.
smooth power, no 2nd barrel kicking in. my 2 cents, Greg

I had dgvs put on mine and had a lot of problems. Mechanic number one had some issues. So, I looked up how to set them up myself, but after a weekend, I still couldn't get them to run right. Then I took them to mechanic number two, and he has them running perfectly. I have no idea what he did differently. I have no regrets for the trouble they put me through as the car really sings now. I haven't experienced any problems with power loss in curves like Strombergs, or power band issues, but perhaps I am not as experienced as other drivers and wouldn't notice the difference.

You may want to have an expert look at them before going through the expense of switching them out.

Might wanna do a search for Teglerizer.com. He has a good site with detailed tuning specs, jets, etc. for a 1500 listed. This would give you a starting point to check your jetting. Once the Weber is set up, it is almost forever(provided you are using clean, filtered gas at a pressure under 2.5 psi.)

Maybe the Webbers differ, but I have had mine on for 2 years completely trouble free. Great exceleration nice steady flow of fuel.
I'm running a stock fuel pump.

Could be the intial setup...

I haven't had problems with my single Weber mainly looking for a little performance boost. Plus I like the period look of twin SUs. I think I'll start checking EBay for a good deal on the twin setup.

We should get together. If you get up to Salem give me a PM I don't get south often but I plan to be in Albany on the 30th to try my first autocross.

Hey BrokenRaceCar, we're practically neighbors. Welcome to the forum. What kind of car do you drive?
Just saw your PM. You've got one.

I'm trying to talk my brother into chucking his single weber set up. he has a rather nice mikuni (?) carb set up for an mgb he purchased from a company called PRI Racing (I think) down in Roseberg. This link is a good article on carb choices for the spittys.

Thanks for the link. I talked to a guy from PRI at the ABFM Real nice guy. There was a very custom Spit that they had put their sidepipe exhaust and one of the coolest roll bars I've seen in. It also had 4 bike carbs, I think they were Mikunis
