Done with this Weber DGV

Well despite all the bad talk about the DGV carb, the engine I have came with it. And anything is better than that ZS I suppose. So the car idled way to lean and ran too rich. (Virtually caused by the same problem) Any one who knows these carbs the way I have come to will know what Im talking about. So I got this thing running puuurrrr-fect. That is for 500 miles. Than th car began to stutter and run like it had a bad cyl. Ive been avoiding fixing it, but today finally decided it was time. So I tore apart a spare DGV I had and peice mealed a few parts together from one to the other and Whala.. She runs good again. Funny thing is I didnt find anything wrong. But never the less the idle is still eratic. Stays from 600-1000 depending on its mood and I decided this carb just ain't what I'm looking for. So brings me to this...

I have to run a single bbl Side draft carb to race this engine next year anyway. What I want to do is slap an MGB SU on the 1500 manifold. Ill take care of the linkages and sorts but has anyone done this that knows if any changes have to be made to the SU. The last SU's I worked on were from my 240Z some 13 years ago. Is the SU my best choice or should I be looking for something Else? Nial I know you run something I'd never have thought of. I'm planning to run the engine in my track car for a while so I';d like to make the right investment. Thanks Guys.

Honestly, I'd just run the HS4 SU carb that you mentioned.
It's a good, simple carb and will work fine. The manifold is so restrictive that a bigger carb (including my S&S unit) doesn't help all that much.

Even the stock HS4 needle and jet is pretty close and should work OK. Screw the jet nut all the way UP and then unscrew it down exactly 2 turns (or "12 flats" down). This will be good to get things close.

Sorry, no spare manifolds. I hacked apart my original manifold when I was trying to improve things, so I ended buying a spare one on eBay for about $15. Pretty easy to find.

I wanted to try an HS4 as well, but I found out it wasn't going to bolt up without doctoring the HS4 mounting ears. If you want to try, I've got a set of HS4s from an MGB and a spare 1500 manifold.
