Boy this project turned into a longer one than I had thought (don't they all?). Intended just to replace the door cards and interior panels, but I wound up needing to go through both doors to fix a few small things. While I was in there -- famous last words -- I replaced all the vent window rubber bits and the driver's vent window frame (thanks, PJ) to fix a missing bracket. Had to completely disassemble the passenger vent window as the pivot and spring were rusted solid. Still, it's nice to know both doors are solidly functional now.
Can't complain, really, as that was the only surprise I discovered. I replaced all the interior trim panels, and the metal behind them is all good. This is really a solid car, I feel very luck to have found it.
Setting up new door panels, plastic sheeting glued to back of door card for a vapor barrier (thanks Mickey for the tip). Plastic was a painters drop cloth.
A tip -- if you're doing this, buy extras of the little clips that attach to the door card. I broke a bunch of them when I had to pull the door card off again to adjust the door handle. Luckily I had saved some of the old ones. You need 13 per door, buy extras if you're doing this. The cups in the door seem to hold up better.
Newly covered rear cockpit surround. PITA to do, and I've got a few wrinkles in one corner, but it's loads better than the old one. Pretty much hidden by the top mechanism most of the time anyways.
And the final result. Really cleans things up nicely. The panels are now correct for the car, and replace ones that had speakers cut into them. Interior looks nice now, I'm happy with the results.
One thing left to do still -- one of the surrounds for the interior door handles broke, so I've got a couple on order from Moss.
Nice to have this behind me, now I can get back to some engine bay work. Have new radiator hoses to install and (hopefully soon) some rebuilt carbs to put on. The rebuilt distributor is already in place and ready to go.
