rebuilding lever shocks

Anyone have experience on this? I took one apart last night to see what make it tick. (Front MGB shock)

The lower piston has a rubber seal that should be easy to source. The seals for the shaft are still in place, but they look like they might be proprietary. I'm sure there will be a way to substitute something modern if needed. In my case the shaft bushings look OK as it never ran too dry. If the shafts are worn there are thinwall shaft repai systems out there, but I'm not sure if they are expensive or not. I saw an article in machine design a few years ago on them.

There are several companies that rebuild these, and of course Tony ie Moss sells them as well. Not to stiff a price in my mind to just buy rebuilt ones or have yours rebuilt professionally. When done right they last forever. My last car was a bit over 30 years old and still had orginial shocks and they were fine.

That URL just took me to the MGBE list of postings - not to a specific one

Tony - Kenny got it right. I should have checked the final product. The url got cut off after the ',' in my original. I fixed my original too.

I got a pair of rebuilt ones from Worldwide two years ago. That was one of the best deals I have found and they do a fantasic job. They will rebuild yours and send them back to you (takes longer) or will swap them as cores for ones they have in stock in a couple of days. Great people to deal with, too! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

mehheh. Somehow I've got, oh, four sets of fronts, but only one and a HALF sets of rears here. How I came out with 2 rights, one left I'll never know. Mebbe there's a gremlin with a fetish for left side LBC dampers loose?

World Wide does a great job rebuilding shocks. I had the pleasure of touring the facility back in July and was very impressed.
