HS2's flooding in turns

I have a set of SU HS2’s on my track car and I’m having a problem where the car will flood in tight turns. The fuel pressure is 1.5-2psi set by a bypass regulator. The carbs have the non-adjustable plastic floats. I have tried shimming the seat to lower the fuel level but it got to the point where the valve wouldn’t open (since the hinge point is fixed it starts to bind). So what am I missing? I’m going to try to locate a set of adjustable floats but I’m curious as to others thoughts. My solution yesterday was to shut off the fuel pump after just before the turns and then back on in the straights but that was a bit cumbersome – especially when I fat fingered the ignition switch also. This is cross posted in the spridget forum.

First, move the fuel pressure to 2.5 psi and use a decent reliable gage to set the pressure.

You can get some adjustment in the o.e. type plastic floats with the riveted metal hinge by using two needle nose pliers on the metal leaf....but just a little. You can shim the seat a bit also. You want the float level 1 inch down form the float bowl gasket. Re-orient your float lids so the floats swing front to rear.

Yes, what Jerry said!! See my post in the Spridget forum for a short related personal experience story.

Reading this post ha me asking......I just bought a 1959 Bugeye that has a race prepped 948 and the guy I bought it from suggested I run 1PSI...it has a fuel pressure gauge as well as a regulator, do you think 2.5 psi is better to run?

If the person you bought it from ran it at 1 PSI indicated on that particular gauge, then run it there. Depending on the resolution of the gauge, the actual fuel pressure may be different then what the gauge says.
I set my fuel pressure using a gauge calibrated in inches of water. The scale of the guage goes to 100 inches, which is 3.6 PSI. I can accurately dial in 1 PSI if want to. I don't think a guge graduated in PSI is going to be particularlly accurate at that low pressure.
If you have access to a finer gauge, check the pressure. I'll bet you find it's actually closer to 2.5 PSI, but that's merely a guess on my part.
I think a true 1 PSI would be on the low side for SU's..

Thanks..
Yes, that makes sense..I couldn't imagine that 1 psi was enough...it is probably more than what reads on the gauge.
