HS2 - Carb Issue

I have a 73 MG Midget 1275,
I recently changed the headgasket and had the car up and running. I was going to clean the Carb when I had it, but I never got around to it. I decided to clean it after I had it in with a degreaser, which did an ok job. Before I did this it had quite a bit of residue on it, but seemed to be working ok. The one thing I did notice was the accelerator arm does not return all of the time. My first thought was maybe springs to return them as I am guessing they are 35 years old. I have an email in to Joe to get the 3 return springs. Last night I was out the car felt like it was running on 3 cylinders, but after looking at the arm connector, this had not returned all of the way. The springs don't seem that strong, so I am wondering if there are other things I should look at. Also, should I take the Carbs off and clean them and get them rebuilt as I would guess they have never been touched in 35 years, though the car has only done 18,000 miles.
Thanks
allan

The "Three Cylinder" running is probably the float jets. I had a similar symptom and it turned out to be the gross jet valve that fills the bowls was stuck closed. Check these jets and maybe a good cleaning will do it. If not replace them with the viton tipped jets. I personally do not like the gross jet ball style jets though some people do. That should do the trick. As a side note, make sure the ignition system is working. Sometimes that can cause what seem like carb issues.

And mine that I thought was fuel turned out to be a loose ignition wire that had vibrated loose on the coil. Rotors are always suspect. The ones from Advanced Distributors are the way to go. NFI of course.
