Timing Chain Tension for 100/4

Had a question on the timing chain tension? On the 100 the slack seems to measure a something like .375 to .50 in and I was wondering if that sounds about right? Can’t seem to see any reference to this in the manual and the rubber tension ring seems intact.

On the tension ring how is that replaced? Do you need to split the sprocket assy open?

I rebuilt my engine last year and changed the tensioner ring then. You need to remove the two sprockets and chains to do it. The ring stretches over the cam sprocket to snap into the groove. My engine was out of the car, so this was an easy job. I imagine it would be a bit harder with the engine in place. I needed a puller to get the cam sprocket off.

I found the new ring tightened up the chain considerably. It had no significant slack with the new ring, but it was harder to get the sprocket chain assembly back on, I had to lever the cam sprocket to get it onto the cam.
