Wedge need tr7 distributor

I'm looking for a delco distributor for my81 TR7.
The guy who had it before me took it apart and lost some pieces.

good luck, I was never able to find one for a spare. Napa lists the distributor, but do not stock it; it has to be special ordered and arrives whenever. Wedgeparts sells a lumenation conversion kit if you go to his web site there is a write up on the conversion; or you might search ebay.co.uk (ebay's united kingdom site). I have bought some hard to find items there.

Call Brad at Wedgeparts...he probably doesn't have a new one, but may have a used one. When my Delco coil went out last year, he was the only one that had a replacement.

PS....the coil is the same as the one on the 1985 Peugot 505...but don't know about the distributor.

Hello Hottvr,
if you can see if you can find a distributor from a Dolomite Sprint engine, it is a Lucas one and far better than that horrible Delco Remy unit originally fitted.

not sure, but i don't believe the lucas distributor wil work on your engine. yours is a bosch fi engine. no vacuum advance, only vacuum retard. best bet is call brad.

exactly, and that is what I did on my son's TR7 (Not an injection one, however) after getting frustrated several times trying to set those Delco Remy points. The idea if putting the advance weights above the points made serviceing so akward.
Incidentally you don't need the very rare and expensive Sprint cap, a mini one works fine.

I don't know about the injection engine, but I understand why vacuum advance works, (allowing the car to run on low load at a weaker mixture i.e. economy) What is the reason for vacuum retard?

On a TR6, the retard functions at idle only AND when the coolant is up to temp. It's sole purpose is to pull the points plate CCW for a later (retarded) ignition condition. This is supposed to help lower engine and coolant temps (and presumably pollutant levels as well) when idling. The thermovalve in the upper rad hose ports high idle vacuum from beneath the rear carb to the retard capsule. To test retard function, disconnect & plug the vac hose to the capsule; the idle should increase.

Many have this feature disabled with no performance problems.

thanks for that: you learn new things all the time.
My Triumph 2000 has an early fuel injected engine and it's distributor has no vacuum unit at all, pure mechanical control. Presumably as the engine runs a very low vacuum. 7 to 8 Hg at idle.
