Panhard Rod Mounting????

Picked up a panhard rod on flea-bay for less than I figured I could make one and am wondering how it is supposed to attach at the axle end. It came with a heim joint and a bolt on that end and that is it. Do I have to do more fabricating or am I missing something? The body mount end is the 3 legged one that I believe Huffacker used to sell.

It usually requires a bracket or two, typically welded. A bracket welded to axle is needed and a point on the body as well. If I had easy access to my race car, I'd send you pix, but there must be a bunch on the internet. Particulars might be specific to the maker, but ideally, you want the bar to be horizontal to the ground when loaded with the driver.

Daniel Stapleton's book covers it briefly. The MG Midget & Austin-Healey Sprite High-Performance Manual

Tom Colby's kit does not require welding.

Your panhard will mount something similar to this. Being that their different designs the attachments will be different. You won’t the car sitting at its normal ride height when installing, at that point you would like the panhard rod level with the rear axle. This one is patteredn after Speedwell type.

I found this pic of my Panhard mounting. It is a Speedwell bar.
The end at the axle, which ya can't see in this pic,has a bung welded to the support and that end bolts into the bung.

I found another pic which shows where the bung is welded to the support.

Thanks David, I've heard that these bars sometimes will cause cracking of the sheet metal where they are mounted. Wondering if I should be re-enforcing the mounting points?

Think that some big homemade washers at the least will be a good idea.

I didn't re-enforce. I've put about
1000 miles on this setup so far
and have no signs of problems.
Beefing it couldn't hurt however.
