BJ7 or BJ8 soft top replacement

Hi guys

Can any one help with information on how to install soft tops on the BJ7 or BJ8, I bumped into an installation method while using the company computer a year or two ago and forgot to send it home, I am now retired and so have lost it.

The Moss interior installation video has a segment on installing the soft top. I opted to let a pro do mine. Too many folks told me that this is not a job for the first-timer. I had replaced several tops on my MGB with little problem, but the BJ8 top, as is most of the car, carries complexity to a new order of magnitude. What I did do was strip and repaint the metal parts, and make sure that the installer had the screws, etc. to do the right job. After seeing the result, I would do the same. Just not a job for me.

Hey Bob,
I'm kind of in the middle about having a pro do it versus doing it yourself.
I have done 3 BJ8 tops and they are not fun to do ! The hardest part is getting
them attached to the curved rear piece that sits on top of the drainage channel.
That has to be attached with clips and done just right or your top will look
wrinkled or worse across the back portion and sides. You will learn to use new
swear words with great ease doing this. The rest is pretty easy and similar to
attaching a roadster top to its frame and header rail. So, if you are patient and can swear like a sailor, like a difficult challenge, then go for it. Like Cutlass suggested, buy the Moss video as not aware of any other video out there now. You might check on You Tube and see if someone has posted something.

oh - just thought of something else, you should remove the rear fold down
back rest to be able to get to everything. Might even take the rear side
panels off too so it is easier to take off and reattach the back rail.

I have done a 100/6 myself - the back of the BJ7 is already stripped out ready to go due to previouse work on the drivers side, I have yet to tackle the passenger side. It is just that I like to plan well ahead. Currently driving about sans soft top - Brave man some say, others say stupid, knowing the British climate. I say, pick the day carefully and, what the heck, the top will leak anyway! It's a Healey.

i'm still messing with the wood/windows/cant rails.
Polyfacto make them for sc parts, while don hoods make them for most of the rest.
