'70 Series II engine bay wiring harness --

I have purchased a new engine bay wiring harness for my restored Series II. According to the SNG Barratt catalog, it is the correct part number for a Left hand Drive Series II (part #JL-202).

Unfortunately when I looked at the bonnet bulkhead connector from the old harness, I noticed that it had seven wire connections versus the new harness which only has six. All my wiring diagrams from the factory manual and from every Jag site that I could find shows only six connections.

This is the connector in question -- shown is the original connector with seven wires. The extra wire in question is the larger gauge wire on the far left hand side that is connected to the #6 bonnet bulkhead plug connector pin.

This is the wire that isn't found on the newly purchased harness.....

...... and is connected to the #6 plug pin.

The original wiring diagram shows only six connections -- and no mention of this #6 wire. It looks like the wire color was originally white with a very thick red tracer swirling around it. --- or it could also have been a Red wire with a White tracer -- not sure at this point

Has anyone run across this problem with their cars? I should mention that this car has power brakes and AC.

Any help would be appreciated.

My apologies for the double post -- I don't know how it happened, but simply to ask the mods to remove one of these.

Thank you!

I wonder if a DPO had done the headlight relay trick and that big fat red wire is the dedicated power feed.

The red with a yellow tracer is for spot lamps. Not sure what the above massage is about?

Thank you!! -- so there actually was a special wiring harness that included a separate heavy gauge wire for the rally type spot lights in the front of the car? I have only seen those spot lights on European E-Types. Never knew they were part of the factory wiring harness or that they were imported with that option into the US.

Your welcome. All english vehicles are wired with the same colour code of the wires. You will likely find that the wire terminates near the facia.

Thank you Geo Hahn -- that is exactly what I was looking for. Many thanks for all the helpful comments in this entire thread. --- Much appreciated!
