wheel stud replacement help

It has been a long frustrating TR6 day - any help would be greatly appreciated. OK, another job I thought would be simple. I am changing over from wire wheels to solid wheels. The studs are longer for the steel wheels. I got my new studs from Moss. I knocked out the studs for the wire wheels. I have had to replace a stud from time to time in other cars and never had any problems. I would slip the stud through the back and pull it tight with the nut before putting on the wheel. It is not working on this car. Is there a special tool to do this job right? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

I did the same thing in my GT6, and just tightened up the studs with the wheel on it till they set in, then took off the wheel to make sure they where all seated.

Not sure that you need a wheel puller or not...........Hmmmm?

Can you describe what is not working a little more? Last time I did that I just put the stud in, put a stack of washers to simulate a wheel and used an old lug nut to pull it in. Is it just slipping on you? If so, maybe a clamp or vice grips to put pressure on it while you tighten. I don't know of any special tool for this.

Normally I do just like you stated, Kodanja. Yes, the studs were just slipping. Never really had that happen before. I guess I was just lucky. Your suggestion of using a couple of washers worked, Randy. I used a couple of washers and applied grease to them, allowing me to pull the studs in. Thanks so much for your help.

Just a little update. The washers worked great for the rear. The front studs were a little more involved. The studs were too long to just slip in behind for the front. I didn't understand the directions in my Triumph manual. I just took off the two bolts holding the brake caliper. I then removed the rotor, and unbolted the hub.
