I'm about to try and fix a noisy valve problem that has been annoying me since the head was redone in the late 90's. The unleaded gas conversion rebuild included new valves, tappets, hardened seats, guides, (3/2) valve springs, and a rocker arm reconditioning from RAS Calif. Pushrods were the only items reused. Probably should have replaced them too!!
Anyway, the engine has the normal tractor engine tappet ticking until it goes through the 2000 to 2300 rpm range then one of the ticks gets real loud. This happens whether powering up or backing off but only in that rpm range.
Just wondering if it could be a broken valve spring and how I would go about checking them out? Maybe a pushrod?
Any ideas, suggestions, tips, hints, whatever will be greatly appreciated.
TIA Barry
BTW living with it is still an option but hopefully not quite yet.
