TR2/3/3A TR3 Vent [not the verb] lid pin

I always thought that this type of snap-ring fit on a shaft that had a groove in it, to allow the ring to snap down into the groove of the pin. The vent lid that came with my car had this set-up, as did the one I got off ebay. Neither of the fat headed pins have a groove for the snap ring -it was held by the tension of the snap-ring (which is a lot of tension). I plan to use a small bolt and nut because of accessibility limitations, but was wondering if these are the proper pins/snap-rings.

I believe that is correct, no groove. There is very little force against the clip, so friction holds it in place quite well.

Probably won't matter, but I'll point out that the threads of the bolt are going to act like a rasp and wear the holes every time you open/close the lid. If you can't deal with the clip, you might consider drilling the original pin for a cotter pin instead.

Seems like I recall using a screwdriver tip to spread the clip, before I got some right-angle snap ring pliers that would fit.

My 56 is set up the same way. I'm glad you asked because I'm sure I would wonder about it when I came to it.

A friction washer I call it is factory issue. Easy to put on but try to get it off with out breaking is a real challenge. I'd drill and carter key it.

When your done "carter keying" it, put a cotter key in it. :rolleye:
