TR3 chassis to inner fender - how bad is this?

Hey guys,

I've known I've had somewhat of an issue with the mounting point between the inner fender and chassis, but in inspecting it tonight I got kinda freaked out. It looks like I'm basically missing the shims that are supposed to be there. In fact, I'm not sure if it's even really connected. Does anyone have a reference pic that I can compare these against?

In other good news, I got my Pertronix installed this evening and and it started right up. What a great, well engineered kit.

As shown in an image from Moss, there are shims needed where you have none....

That looks really nice to me except for the missing parts. From what I have seen of your tr3, it must have set for long time inside and the rubber rotted out letting the shims fall out with it. The little peak of the floor seam looks very solid.

Don't get upset by this. Your car looks better than 90 percent of what I have seen. As a suggestion, open and close your doors. Do they operate without any binding? Do they engage the latch properly? Do you have even gaps when the doors are closed? Replace the packing where it is missing, but don't tighten the mounting bolt. Then, have two people of average weight sit in each seat while you are checking to see if the packing has compressed. Once again, while they are sitting in the car, open and close the doors and check for binding and even gaps. Do this a few times until you have just enough packing between the chassis members and body shell, but not too much. Also, it would be a good time to replace those body mounting bolts. Soak with Liquid Wrench, remove bolts, more Liquid Wrench, replace bolts, Bob's your uncle!

thanks very much guys. I ordered the stuff from Moss today.

The doors open and close pretty smoothly, although the passenger door can be a little tough opening from the inside, but I thought that had to do with a door adjustment. I'll have to check it out and see if the gaps are consistent.
