On my recently purchased TR4-A, one of the horns does not work and I'm trying to determine if it is the low or high note horn (I don't have enough of a musical ear to determine from the sound). Both horns have Clear Hooters (really!) cast into the back. One has HH cast into the mouth (large opening) and one has H cast into the mouth (smaller opening). I didn't see any other marks, but I may be missing something. Can anyone tell me which is high and which is low.
Also, is there a way to turn what appears to be the adjusting screw to maybe get the thing to work - it does make a ticking noise when power is applied, but that's it.
Thanks
Glenn

The chance of getting a set of 40-year-old Clear Hooters to work again are pretty slim. Some people have taken them completely apart with limited success. I installed a set of (Italian) Fiam "Loud" horns from Pep Boys. Similar in size, uses the same mounting holes, cheap and will peel the paint off of the car in front of you.

Thinking about note values relative to the size of, say, organ pipes, I'd guess that the large mouth horn has the lower note. But that's only a guess.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

Are these the same as are on the TR6? I believe they are labeled H and L somewhere. My horns only clicked when I got the car, but there is an adjustment screw that you might be able to turn to get it working again. Mine worked fine after I tinkered with that screw. As I recall, you turn the screw (flathead) clockwise until you get a strong horn sound and then turn back counterclockwise 1/4 turn and you're set. (This is all assuming your TR4 horns are the same as my 6 horns...)

You might try putting a rag or something into the horn opening and beeping it and then switching sides to determine which one it is.
