Working On The Daily Driver

Guess my Jeep Wrangler is getting back at me for all the time I've spent with Midgie.I drove last week and realized the brakes weren't as they should be. Looked through the wheels and saw deep gouges in the rotors. I know what that means. Pads and rotor replacement.

I had this problem before where there wasn't any audible indications until it was too late. There's no one around here anymore that turns rotors or drums, so the only option is to replace them. This is one of the few times I'll really stick up for the OEM equipment. I tried aftermarket rotors from other parts houses before and the vertical part that mates to the hub isn't thick enough. At least Chrysler/Jeep is getting a bit smart and offering a pads and rotor kit. It would've cost me more to buy all the equipment even if I could have used aftermarket rotors. Luckily I found a dealership that had the kit about 10 miles away.

Left side apart I make fairly quick work of it. Right side is a little more cumbersome due to the caliper bolts supplied not wanting to work. Chased the mounting hole threads and they went in as they should. Test drive went well. No noise, no pulling one side vs. the other. All in about 2 hours.

Sounds like a good job... it's so nice when things go as they should... :yesnod:

...then back to the LBCs.... :wall: :hammer:  :jester:
