TR2/3/3A TR3A Help with Resto Pics Please Front Inner Sill

Hi Guys,

Just getting ready to take out the old inner sills and was wondering if anyone has any photos that they could share of how the area at the front of the sill/lower bulkhead should look. Mine is in pretty rough shape and has patches braised and pop riveted. I believe that there is a threaded hole in the nose of the original sills (haven't received my replacements yet)but mine have been welded over as well....

I can post some pics tonight if my description of the area doesn't make sence.

Thanks for the help.

Cheers,
M. Pied Lourd

I don't have any good pics of that area, but yes, there is a threaded weld nut at the front of the inner sill. There are also three other caged nuts along the lower front edge in the back. All of those threads are 1/4"-28, same as all of the other body caged nuts.

BTW, if you have any spots where you need to replace a caged body nut, but don't have access to weld in an original style, I used McMaster's # 90594A040 weld nuts. They weld on from the outside and have the same 1/4"-28 threads. 50 pcs for about $10. I used five of them in the rear fender area right at the back where there's no access to weld in the caged nuts. I also used a few in the more forward section of the rear wings where access was possible, but difficult.

Thanks for posting those Art.

Will see if anyone has some pics of that area. I will try to post some pics tonight of what mine looks like currently. Not pretty...

Here's a pic I dug out (cropped). I don't know if it will help you. I'm sure you're looking for some more extensive pics.

Martx, did you make those sills yourself or modify ones you got somewhere else?

The sills that you see laying on the table are from the Roadster Factory. I bought them maybe eight or ten years ago and was going to use them for the restoration. However, along the way, a whole 'nuther body showed up that didn't need inner sills (along with a whole lot of other repairs), so I still have the ones from TRF. They have not been modified, or touched in any way. Other then the surface rust, that is how I received them.

Hi Art,

Actually, that is not too bad. I think that I get the idea. I don't think mine is too far gone to fix it properly. Will wander out to the garage shortly and take some pics.

Cheers,
David

I think that the hole (cage nut) in the center of the sill is an attachment point for the bottom of the splash guard that runs up the side of the bulkhead. Can anyone confirm this?

David

The pictures that I posted don't have the lip in the front of the bulkhead at the bottom. All the others look like they have a 1/2" or 3/4" lip on them in the front. This must be one of the many changes they made over the years, or something is not correct on my car.

After rebuilding TS33753, when following straight after with TS79550 we noticed that the front edge of the new floors joined the bulkhead with a lip instead of a radius.

We just shrugged and figured it was yet another minor change when the body was re-tooled at TS60000.

The Floor that I put in tonight fits perfectly as it extends right to the end of the flange in my picture above. It also lines up perfectly at the rear so I think that I am good to go.

David

The ones that I have seen that have the lip are from previous floor replacement and is wasn't wrapped up on the bulkhead....Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

The picture I posted earlier is a post 60k body, and on that side I did not replace the floor. It's as original.
