Agreed, a rebuild is probably 15K+, but supposedly they are pretty robust if maintained.
That was my point. We usually don't worry about the mech as much as the bodywork. I'd rather have one like this as a proj, anyone can do bodywork if the parts are there.
I had my 3500 rebuilt in Italy when I was stationed there and it was spendy then too for a GI (1977) but the alloy body and interior was perfect. Such a lovely car to drive in a country that had no Autostrada speed limits.
FYI I picked it up on the base 'lemon lot' for $2500. It was my only trans for 5 years there and in the States lol.
