TR5/TR250 Bearing/Rings Choices TR250

I am about to order some parts for my TR250 engine, I think I am going to go with the more expensive tri metal bearings, as a few bucks now is easier than pulling the motor later.

I am mildly modifying the motor, nothing radical, cam and compression ratio, plus some porting to the head, just checking to see if the extra $20 or so for the rod and mains for tri-metal (King Brand I believe) is worth it.

Cast iron or chrome plated rings?

The last motor I did was for an Austin Healey 100, I didn't have all these choices!

I used the King tri-metal and I think that they are worth it. The machine shop said they were excellent quality bearings.

I used the rings that came fitted with my new AE pistons, but I don't think that they were chrome plated. Years ago, those were the hardest to get to break in.
 
Back in the early days of the Herald 948cc and 1147cc engines, one of the parts involved in upgrading from single carburetor to dual carburetors was changing the stock main and big-end bearings for stronger tri-metal ones. I'm pretty sure that, originally, most of the "sporting" versions of the Triumph engines had tri-metal bearings from the start....
 
I had this discussion when I rebuilt mine this Spring. Went with the tri metal King bearings from BPNW The rings that came with my pistons were not chrome.
 
Rod and Main bearings, King trimetal, AE trust washers from BPNW, 400 miles ago.
