Starting electrical problems ?

Ugh, just what I needed this morning, what I thought was a dead battery. All set to go to a get together for LBC's down here and my BN2 would not start. Here's where I am perplexed-which when it comes to electrical is normal. Went to start 'er and turned over fine, almost started, and then abruptly ran out of juice. Got the infamous clicking from the starter which led me to believe it was simply a dying battery. Then after a few clicks totally dead- no pump, no lights, nothing. So jumped it and got pump back, lights would come on, starter turned over slowly, but not fast enough to get it started. Took the battery out and had it tested at my local Advance store, and it tests out great, no issues with the battery. So, where do I start to look to figure this out since starter ( gear reduction) did tun over to begin with and then slowly as mentioned above so don't think it's the starter. Help ?
Thanks,
Mike

Hey Hans,
Cleaned up the battery terminals and cables and initially got power but hit the starter button, couple of clicks and then dead again. Have to look at the grounds so maybe that could be it. Will definitely give this a try and post what happens !
Thanks
Mike

You don't have one of notorious battery cut-off switches, do you?

How about the battery and engine ground connections?

Hey John,
Got one but not hooked up. Gonna check all the ground connections and see if that might be the culprit
Thanks,
Mike

Well, color me stupid !!!!! I "thought" I had by-passed the infamous cut off switch but my 64 year old brain must have been thinking about my BN6, not this BN2 that I have had for about 18 months. As John asked above and I answered, "not hooked up", well I do have one and it was hooked up and there was the problem after checking out everything else. Cleaned all the hook ups and we have lift off! So if nothing else, all connections are cleaned and tightened, know my battery is in great shape due to the check up at Advance Auto Parts, and believe I am good to go. What really bothers me most of all is my first big Healey was a 67 BJ8 back in 1977 and had the exact same problem and that turned out to be the battery switch wire had come loose in the trunk and was shorting out. So I have been here before and still didn't check it first.
Thanks for everyone's help,
Mike

Don't feel bad; it took me forever to figure out the switch was the problem on mine. Sometimes it would start, and sometimes it wouldn't. At that time, I didn't have the BCF to help out.

I had something similar on my BN4 and after some attempts I found that had broken the h.t heal from the distributor cad to the coil ignietion.
I replaced it and everything is fine.
I don't know if I can be of hel for you.

best regards,

Massimo
