Gearbox cover seals

I'm trying to find seals for the gearbox cover on my TR3A project. Moss, VB and TRF don't seem to carry them. I'm thinking I'm going to have to make them myself out of flat rubber, like an inner tube.

What say, Triumph gurus?

You mean the o-rings on the shift rods?
Why not try to find some suitable o-rings? My local hardware store has drawers full of them.

Nope. I'm talking about the seals that go between the gearbox cover and the firewall & body pans.

Oh ---- THAT gearbox cover.
They do not, in fact, appear to exist.
I used 3M # 08578 non hardening strip caulk in there. It's a little messy when you have to pull the tunnel for repair work, but it does a good job sealing.

Thanks. I think I'll make some out of an inner tube. They will be "custom made" and "one of a kind".

I don't believe the early cars originally had seals there; although the TR4 seals fit reasonably well.

I use silicone sealer/caulk myself.

Instead of using an old inner tube, you might find using a sheet of "Rubber-Fiber" (available from auto stores) to be more convenient. It is flat and easier to cut.

My gearbox cover was in place when I got the car, but the sealant around it had dried and cracked. I simply used silicone sealer caulk. It worked well, and can be removed easily.
