Never saw one like that before. Just how bright does that get?

That design looks like it would give much more light onto the reflective back and ultimately disburse the light more evenly through the lens. Have you tried one?

I always thought that LED's were brightest when viewed "head-on". Since these bulbs don't have the LED's orientated facing rearwards, I question how bright they are from a distance.
My question is: Why change? What will you save?

They are available in #1156 and #1157 base configurations. Haven't tried 'em yet but longer bulb life, less heat generation and brighter intensity would be my guess as to their benefit. Can't find the website just now but there is one place which explains it all ('course they're selling the things). Red, yellow and white are all available as well. Thinking on replacing the instrument lamps with 'em.

Found it: LED bulbs

The Litezupp folks make application-specific bulbs, that do have the LEDs turned in the correct direction for the application.

To my eyes, they are still no brighter than a new 2357 bulb, especially off to the side; but the long life would certainly be an advantage.

The downside is that there are frequently other adjustments required, like the turn signal flasher (if you use them for turn signals). Someone on another forum was just complaining that his cruise control would no longer work with LED brake lights.

don't have any led's on the car, but I do have them in service at work. LED's mean that you can use solar power in the middle of nowhere and have a light to mean something.

The main problem Ihave had with them is that after two years of being lit they don't put out much light anymore and you have to replace them. Other than that they have been as reliable as a rock.

I buy them from here

My enclosed cargo trailer has all led lights and I really like them.

I am refurbishing a small trailer for behind my TR6 and plan on LED's for it. One of the reasons for putting them on the smaller trailer is because the can bounce pretty hard sometimes and I am hoping the LED's might take it better.

Haven't decided about the cars yet, certainly no cost benefit. I still have some original bulbs in both of my LBC's.

I had never heard that the LED's have a short life span. That certainly make me avoid a LED TV.

Im all about LEDs; xmas, halloween, cars, whatever. I had planned on possibly adding additional interior lighting in the future with leds, but on a classic british car, I would still get WARM WHITE. I use cool white for xmas, mostly because theyre widley available, and when we started, warm white wasnt available. So if your looking into it, remember that there is a difference between warm white and cool white.

Both my trailer and TV are just as bright now s when I bought them. But the night lights we use in hallways and for the stairs don't last long at all.

BTW: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Tom!! :savewave:

The LED will last like 100 times over a conventional bulb, however the load on the electrical system will be considerably less. On some older applications a new variable load Electronic flasher is needed. Grote #44890 three terminal, and 44891 two terminal. The new LED lights are very reliable and long lived. Plus if the face of the light is made up from many diodes, then DOT will allow a certain percentage of those to fail before they consider the light to be burned out. Keep in mind there is a greater cost going in that will pay off over the long haul, providing the electrical system does not have any inherent problems.......LBC's should be fine......right?

You also have to remember that in my application they are on 14/7/365. Just over 10000 hours. If you read the literature, that's pretty much their lifespan.

The advantage is that I can power them with a solar panel and two deep cycle batteries, otherwise it's a 1000 feet of underground powerline.

You have to get used to their somewhat garish colors, very harsh and "chromy". You can figure out just how long 10000 hours is with an instrument light. Like UYO said, the warm white is better, but still takes some getting used to.
