Mystery part arrived today!

The mystery part I bought arrived today. Many thanks to Frank (spritenut). This gives me a possible solution to a nagging issue I've had. Don't know if I'll ever actually use it, but when it came available I just couldn't resist. I think this is pretty much the only special part I'll really need if and when the time comes...

I figure I can always make a dash if it comes to that. Bugeye dash is just a flat piece of metal, and it might be fun to redesign a bit.

Drew, Tom Colby at Speedwell Engineering has fiberglass dash blanks for the Bugeye available, so you can put things wherever you want them.
Have fun.

It'll drive you crazy until you do it.
My MkII grille arrived today and I couldn't stand it, had to put it on. Looks great.

I'll keep that in mind, Jeff. I'm not in a rush to do the conversion, I've got a large load of other things to do first. I just couldn't pass up the chance to pick up the rack when it came available.

I've got the 1275 to refurbish, disc brake conversion to do, and then there's that 5-speed I just bought...

Been a busy parts-acquisition winter! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

It's been a good couple of months for gigging, lots of Christmas parties and the like. I'm a little burned out from all the playing, but it has been funding a few things for the little car.

One thing at a time, though. Engine first, the other bits will come eventually.

As a Brit who has lived most of my life driving right-hand drive cars, on the left-hand side of the road, please tell me why on earth you would want to convert to right-hand-drive here in the USA?

I can't explain it, Chris, it's just a fascination that I have. Maybe it's my heritage breeding true (Grandfather was from Swinden, if I remember right). Who knows. I don't really understand, it just is. It's not practical, probably not even all that wise to do. But I'd still do it.

Might even have to hunt down an original RHD Bugeye some day. I guess I'm just a bit nuts. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I've been reading old British British car mags and one of the trouble shooting issues for a car not running for the Brits was ignition wiring shorting to the steering wheel shaft. Another joy of right hand drive.

Why might a RHD car suffer more from electrical short circuits than a LHD one?

The shaft to the steering is going down on the dist. side, if the wires rub against the shaft, they would rub the insulation off.

This is why the cars have those side entry caps.
