Car seats and LBCs

So I guess I need some parenting advice from you, the wiser crowd. I keep thinking I want to take my 19 month old for a ride in the TR6 now that weather is so nice. I looked at the laws regarding car seats and they say not in the front seat unless there is no back seat. Do, or did, any of you take your toddlers for rides? What's the general consensus for or against doing so?

I take my three year old in the Spit all the time. In MA, he doesn't need to be in a car seat because the car is older than 1966, but I don't feel safe having him in it that way. But the LATCH belt on his car seat hooks right into the original lap belt connection points. That doesn't work so well in the TR3 though, so I haven't had him in that.

Toddler seats shouldn't be used in the front seat with an air bag. Is your Triumph so equipped ?

That should limit you problem to only those “visitation days”. :jester:

That was the problem that started my TR3B years of inactivity. My wife could not come with me and leave the baby at home and there was not room for the car seat in back or even in the passenger seat. Now nineteen years later, we are paying for college and the car is still in the garage. :wall:

Mine used to absolutely love to ride in my TR3A. Fortunately that was before the "child seat" laws were passed. Now she's married & has a kid of her own, but still occasionally talks about riding in the "fast car" as she used to call it.

Our Grandson, who was then just 2 weeks shy of two years, spent most of three days in our TR7 with his Mom driving. This was last September when the BAOA held their annual Rendezvous in Chama, NM. Cori probably won't remember it except through the pictures that were taken and the 3rd place plaque he and his Mom snagged for the trivia rally, but you can bet his Grandma and I, who accompanied them in our J-H, will never forget the joy of having him along on this great adventure.
The car seat transfered from my daughter's Pacifica to the TR7 nicely and was very secure and the over the seat back strap hooked securely behind and under the seat base. My daughter, who is much more versed in car seat than I, was satisfied that the seat would function as it should if the unthinkable had occured. Go for it!

I just took my six year old for her first ride in the TR4A. I have recently installed three point belts in the car and I strapped her, and her booster seat, in nice and tight.

I only plan to drive her around town, and not on the freeway. I think the chance of injury isn't actually lower around town, but the lower speeds offer me some degree of comfort.

I probably won't take her younger sister out in the car until she is also six. I know kids rode in these cars with no seatbelts back in the day, but I just wouldn't feel confortable with a toddler strapped into the car. However, please don't think I am trying to discourage you from doing so. A good car seat and fully functioning seatbelts should offer quite a bit of protection, even if not up todays car safety standards.

Mom and Dad had a 1957 Corvette and I recall the whole family driving around town in it. My sister and I sitting on the metal console between the seats and my younger brother in my Mom's lap. Things were a little different in those days.

Sad part is they sold the Corvette in the early 70's for next to nothing after the engine died. :frown:

To do it properly, you need to install an
anchor to the floor, behind the seat,on the floor.
