GT6 Body differences between gt6 and spitfire...

Talking with buddies over beers, they posed the question I couldn't answer... Is the gt6 body like the spitfire, as in, could you cut the top off of a gt6 and use a spitfire convertible top and fab a trunk etc to make a bastard spitfire? I didn't have a spitfire sitting in front of me so I couldn't answer it but it got me thinking. I know people swap gt6 and spitfire bodies back and forth. Anyways, figured this would be the place to ask. Yes I know it's more fabrication than just cutting etc... I'm not sitting here with a beer in one hand and a cut off wheel in the other, mainly just wondering if they are close to the same

Close, yes. In some cases, very close. Essentially, though, it's usually far easier to make slight modifications on a Spitfire body in order to mate it to a GT6 chassis and running gear. Also, Spitfire bodies are likely easy enough to come by that there's virtually no sense in carving up a GOOD GT6 body.

OK, you have my attention. Why not cut in front of the rear glass and make a Stag type targa, get the rear deck of a Spitfire cut at the fender seams, attach and cut as needed, plastic rear window.
What kind of engine do you have in that, how do I put this gently, Thing. I can see lots of work and like the front better than the back. Thanks for sharing.

Fully tubular frame, custom suspension, ford 9 inch rear, th400 trans, sbc 355... Soon to be built sbc twin turbo. Probably swap to a 2004r trans for the drive ability and overdrive gear, same size and mounting points as a th400. Not looking to make a 100% correct looking gt6, not thinking a 100% correct looking spitfire... Thinking of something different that looks like a triumph but is pleasing on the eyes. Already going to be pleasing on the power and performance..

My brother-in-law had a Spit and a GT6. He pulled body of GT6 off frame and put on Spit and used GT6 bonnet. Kept both and put back before selling.

Yeah, this one will have so much custom stuff, there's no way it'll be going back to factory once it's done
i love the lines of the Devin car plus it looks a lot like a Thomas dinner front end I've got lying around for a sprite project. Wonder what the easiest way would be to round and change the front end a little bit? Attached a few ideas, first is my Thomas denner hood for a sprite, second 2 are from searching the web. Not saying I'd chop up a rare hood, just ideas on design to make the front end look a little bit better.

I finally took delivery of the triumph gt6... First thing is first, I'm going to snatch the engine and transmission, and then start figuring out how to get rid of the airbags that are in the car currently and put in coil overs. More to follow.

Best I can think is previous owner was going to turn them down and do side pipes but who knows

Well, I start pulling the car apart and found some interesting stuff... First off, the 4 link setup was small square tubing and nuts... I don't think they got any penetration trying to weld galvanized nuts to the tubing and I found one of the links already snapped. I'm going to redo them the right way. I also found a board on top of the rear suspension, I'm guessing it was put there to keep the car off the tires when the airbags were flat, which they are... Thankfully I'm going to swap over to coilovers all around. I should get a ton done today.

Chassis is extremely well built, someone really put a lot of time and money into certain aspects of the car, certain other parts not so much, the busted rear 4 link bar is a good case in point another is the air bag suspension with no real thought to shocks, etc. even parts of the suspension, while very well put together, can bind in suspension travel. I'll get all of that sorted out. I'm at a stopping point today, going to toss this engine after a lot of cleaning and some swapping of parts from an old engine into my Cameron tomorrow then the triumph gets its spot in the garage.
1st photo is the tire that came out of the car as I got it, and a 345 sized tire from my z06... I'd like to get something close to that width under the rear with some modifications.
Rest kinda speak for themselves... No trans dipstick, cooler lines barely put in, zero fluid in the trans, etc etc...

Camaro running good, had to do some drastic valve adjustments and my carb was set up for the little car so some minor tweaks and the Camaro purrs like a kitten again... If prefer the growl of a big block but running is running for now, and a big 427 will be in it after the triumph.
