1500 Dual Carbs in, rims lost in space...

Well, my euro Midget 1500 dual carbs came in today, but my rims are MIA. No one knows where they are. Came through DHL, which now finalizes shipment through the post office. Yes, you heard me correctly, DHL sends the mail man to make delieveries for them. My rims got sent back due to "improper address", but the carbs had the same address. P.O didn't scan the carbs and show to still be waiting for them from DHL. Good thing they didn't get scanned by the P.O, or I never would have gotten them.

Carbs came with new gaskets, new heat shield, new throttle cable and complete air cleaner assembly. I have to admit, I'm happy with them, however; I don't think I'll use them. I didn't know you still had to notch the brace for them to clear. I thought that was only with Spit carbs. Like I said before, I'm not cutting my car. I'll probably put them on ebay after cleaning and go to Mega Squirt eventually.

I know the notch isn't big, I just can't bring myself to cut this thing. Oh well, at least I got to fondle them for a while. (I like rare stuff.)

Rims should be here in a month or so...if they find them...

(And yes, I typo'd carbs again and spelled crabs, but I fixed it this time.)

I have the skill set needed, just not the desire.

I have a very straight, clean car and wish to keep it that way. "One day" it might be worth more uncut. I believe that the should parts fit the car, not the car fit the parts.
 
Is there room to shift the float bowl? I'm wondering if a custom adapter could be made that would allow you to retain the proper bowl height but offset.
 
If done right the notch should be reversible.
The benefits of running a well sorted pair of SU's are (I am sure) obvious to you, otherwise you wouldn't have bought them.
 
I am with Trevor. It should not be too difficult to fab an offset that moves the float bowl forward the inch needed to clear the brace. Send them to me. I will design one for ya' then sell it to other guys in the same predicament.
 
Or better yet, sell them to me (or swap me my newly rebuilt HS4) and I'll send it to Morris

YIKES !!! Maggie is shivering under her cover right now. I'll move the bowls, but I'm not gonna do factory clearance. Thanks for the pic. I was wondering how they were supposed to be set up. Looks like my euro air cleaner won't fit even if I move the bowls. I don't like it that much anyway.

My understanding is that HIF38's will fit without having to notch the bodywork. Look for a set from an early '70's MGB. They have the same mounting flange and bolt pattern as the HS4's, but don't have the side-mounted float bowls that interfere with the bodywork.
