TR6 TR6 not starting

On the nice 60 some degree day here in Kansas I was out driving my TR6 all morning. Then I went to start it up again to go somewhere and it wouldn't start. The starter was still cranking but the motor wouldn't turn over. I was able to push start it and drive home without a problem. What do you think the problem is? Any ideas.

What do you mean by "the engine wouldn't turn over"? Did the starter catch and did the crank actually turn? Sounds like a starter gear problem or , dread, flywheel slipping....

starter is toast. You need a new one.

Eric--As was pointed out, it could be that your starter solenoid isn't engaging the flywheel teeth. The other possibility is that your thrust washers have fallen out and your crank/flywheel is now completely out of alignment with the starter gear.

well now that after i thought about it and went down this morning the engine was turning over so my starter is fine. Its got to be a firing problem. My distributor probably needs replaced along with new plugs.

Eric, sometimes when the starter gets lame it starts to draw excessive current, this can drop your voltage to the coil,giving weak spark. Another possibility is a weak battery(low volts)due to a bad cell, same result.
