They cleaned up real nice with the Dremel and the little flapper wheels. I didn't like the bright look with the car primer gray tho. Even tried some clear coat on them. They will be ok till paint gets done.

Those pillars and the windscreen surround on my '66 Sprite look like clear anodized parts to me. I've never heard of anyone having them refinished that way. New aluminum parts come out of the stamping or extruder dies with a nice 'brushed' like finish. Anodizing preserves the finish and prevents contamination from fingerprint, etc. In order to refinish them to look as new you would first have to brush them to create the finish as original before putting a clear anodic coating on them. Getting the bare metal to look right might be difficult. Powercoating with one of the many silver colors available today might be a better solution and perhaps less expensive, but will never look as original.

Yes, they should be anodized, unless you have a very early car when they were painted body color. I dropped off all of my polished cockpit trim, and both window pillars at a local shop and they charged me their minimum fee of $100 to anodize all five pieces.

I tried home anodizing before. Not too difficult but I needed a bigger set-up and didn't have the room, need or time. it was just an experiment.

Guys here were getting stupid $$$ for anodizing paintball stuff and I didn't want to pay the $$$. "Rattle, Rattle" fixed that.
