I found it at O'Reilly's for around $14.00 per gallon. But decided to use Redline (MTL-90) instead from Summit Racing. More expensive but I don't recall the exact price.

So the only response , for our Canadian friends in all those is Mark's

"have been using fully synthetic GL5 gear oil in my Spitfire's differential and transmission for 8 years now with no ill effects. I do look for one that stated that is it compatible with yellow metals (just to feel more safe).

I have looked into the API service designation for GL5 and it does state "...protection against oxidation, thermal degradation, rust, copper corrosion...""

Seems to me you've gotten a lot more responses than that, Don. Did you read the two threads that were linked to above? And TRF will ship to Canada.

Canada is kind of a big place, might help if we had some idea what part your friend lives in.

A little poking around with Google turned up lots of leads. Some people claim Canadian Tire can order Redline MT-90 (others say they can't). Here's an eBay seller that ships to Canada:

I paid $14 for a quart; considering that a liter is only 2 ozs more, $18 sounds steep.

Price seems to vary widely. I forget where it was, but I've seen it on the shelf for $17/quart. And since Redline is located here in CA, I wouldn't be surprised if it's more expensive north of the border (especially in Canadian dollars).

OTOH, that makes a fillup of gearbox oil about the same price as a fillup of gasoline. Main difference is that a tank of gas only lasts a week, while the oil should be good for a few years at least.

I paid $52.95 for a gallon at Summit Racing. I live close by Summit so no shipping costs. $14.00 quart is close to what I paid. Buying by the quart does not seem to carry much of a price premium if it can be bought at $14.00. At $17.00 quart, that's a good premium over buying a gallon. $18.00 in Canadian and any duties paid sounds a bit high comparing to US $14.00 but at $17.00 US it sounds in line. Have him call Summit and see what it would cost to send to CA, my guess is that $18.00 CN will sound good.

Just a bit of trivia, the Canadian dollar is currently stronger that the US dollar, $1 Canadian is worth $1.05 US....
