TR4/4A Electrical question

Hi all,
I am in the process of fitting a new dash and a couple of replacement gauges (still...).
On removal of the dash I noticed 3 black wires (have tested them and they do indeed connect to ground/earth) all taped up with masking tape. Must have been done years ago because the tape kind of crumbled on removal.
Underneath the tape the 3 wires are connected to an eyelet. See pic with red test lead clip attached.
QUESTION: where is this supposed to be connected?
It hasn't got much spare play in it so it will have to be connected close by. I'd like to connect it where it should have been if possible but failing that any suitable grounding point I suppose.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Not sure about TR4 but on other models there was a ground cluster similar to yours fastened to the mounting bracket for on of the instruments. On my Herald, only one of the black wires actually goes to ground, the others ground various devices behind the dash.

Lug looks a little big to be attached to a guage but it certainly won't hurt to do it that way. Just ground those wires to the dash frame on any bolt or screw it will reach.

I agree with Marv. Also, do you have the black loop of grounds that go to the gauges? Not sure the oil gauge gets one.

If you have a light on your oil gauge it needs a ground.

There's a good reason for doing things that way. If the wires were grounded in various places, a lot of funny things could happen--like the instrument lamps dimming when you turned on your headlights or other high-current loads. Also, with separate grounding, any one of those grounds could go bad and cause trouble.

I carried this perhaps to an extreme in my MG TD, where I used a single-point ground for almost everything. You can see it in the top left:
