J type?

Definitely not a J-type, nor I think any OD type fitted to a Triumph since at least 1950 or so.

Also looks as though the gearbox was specifically made to accept that OD; unlike the Triumph boxes which require adapters. The model number also appears to be in a different sequence than the TR ODs ... makes me wonder if Laycock didn't make the whole gearbox. Some quick Googling seems to show that Aston Martin and Jaguar sometimes bought gearboxes from them so ???

The trans looks like a Jaguar unit, but I cannot remember one with such a short overall length. Maybe a "moss" box for another application?

Laycock de Normanville was an overdrive used in the Standard Vanguard, but it was not electronic.

The main trainsmission case is the spitting image of a Jaguar XK140/150.
