Bugeye Sprite - Two Types of 2 Stud Windshield

Hi,
I thought there were only two windshields for the Bugeye, 2 stud and 9 stud. However, I have two different 2 stud windshields.

My 1960 Bugeye, which I'm restoring, came with the windshield in the first photo (WS 1) that has a thin bottom molding, I also have a windshield with a thicker bottom molding as shown in the second photo (WS 2).

My second Bugeye, a 1959, has the one with the thicker bottom molding.
Anyone have an idea as to which one is correct?

Huh.... I don't know. I've never seen this discussed before. Does one say "patent applied for" and the other "patent #..."
 
They both have "Weathershield Patent Applied For" on them. I'm thinking that the one with the thin bottom molding is maybe an early 2 stud windshield as it does not have the extra metal lip to cover the windshield rubber. Although it does have the lip on the sides and top. Maybe the extra lip was added at the bottom to the later ones.

Mine is 37902, but who knows if it still has the original windshield.

I've only ever seen the thick frame on the later Bugeyes. Still a mystery waiting to be solved.

What about the glass? I have been supplied with a glass that is 10mm too high & 20mm too wide. Could it be for a 9 Stud windshield? It will not fit in the alloy frame & it is not a MkIII type either.
(By the way it is for a Sprite that I am restoring, not my 100.)

the windshield channel is the same size on both windshields, it's only the bottom outside lip that is a different size.
