The 1098 engine was removed from my '66 Sprite 10 years ago when I started the restoration. It had very good and uniform compression so it was well oiled and sealed while I worked on the body - and then I lost interest. I'm now, finally, getting on with the restoration and not sure if I should continue to sink more money in this project or just put the engine back in and go. The engine ran well when removed, but I felt it prudent to at least pull the head and have a look see.
After removing some light carbon from the top of the pistons I noticed that the piston numbers are not all the same. The front and rear pistons are marked M2013V51, but the two inner pistons are marked M2013W6.
Anyone have any idea of what these numbers mean and why they are different?
