Got a couple parts orders in today, so it's time to dive into the spring projects. Here's the list of things on my list:
<ul style="list-style-type: disc">[*] New brake pads and hoses[*] New Westco battery (done) and battery cables[*] New battery bins[*] Hinged battery cover (Clark and Clark, done)[*] New plastic fan (still have original metal fan) and fan shroud[*] New retractable seat belts[*] Change transmission oil and OD screen[*] Mesh screen for the air intake in front of the windscreen (done)[*] Usual oil change, air filter clean, etc[/list]
So the workbench is full of parts and the MGB is up on axle stands with the wheels up against the wall. Amazing how quickly you can turn an otherwise running car into a piece of static garage sculpture.

The magic floating MGB, ready for pulling the battery cable and brake hoses and pads (rear shoes are fine).

Battery cages look pretty clean, all things considered. Very little corrosion.

It's a silly little thing, but I like the little mesh screen under the intake grille. Keeps the big chunks out and was cheap.

Bit of progress tonight, got the new seat belts installed (retractable ones from Moss). Never liked the static belts I had before, just didn't really work like I had hoped. A small thing, but progress nonetheless.

I see you're starting with the easy / fast / clean jobs first.
Yup!

Next up I'll swap the brake pads and flush the lines, then pull the battery cable (messy). Need to find somewhere local that can make a custom cable for me.

Drew, you can make the cable.
All you need to do is go to the
autoparts store and get the ends big
enough for the cable, you can buy lengths of cable
and some heat shrink tubing.

All you need is a crimper, a soldering iron, and a heat gun.

I make my own cables all the time, they're easy enough.

OR if you have a Fastenall or Motion Industries
business near you. they can supply/make it for you.

We do have a Fastenall in town, I'll have to check with them and see if they can do what I need. Don't intend to make lots of cables, so owning the big crimper needed really isn't necessary for me.

Put the shrink tubing over the cable, before
you put on the connector.
I use a hammer and a center punch, then solder the end.
Scoot up the shrink tubing and use a heat gun,
(or your wifes blow dryer)

They come out nice and then I use
the marine battery connectors with the wingnuts.

Looks cool, and works great.
