Installing window winders and interior door handle

Offline
HELP! I used to do this 30+ years ago and I don't know why I'm having a heck of a time at it now. Anyway, I can't seem to install my window winders. I can't push the spring and plastic crown in far enough to get the winder handle on and put the pin in. I got some .112 thick piano wire at 12", cut a notch in it at approx 3/4" so that I had a length to work with, could stick it in the hole then I could just snap it off. It worked for the interior door latch (but there was no room for the escutcheon too). My door panel is from Heritage and fairly new. I can't seem to push it in far enough to accomplish this task. There is a car show this weekend in town and I want to put my Healey in it. Thanks!

For what its worth;

I used two sticks I got with some paint ...
Also I used a spoke to get the pin out

Inside is a round pin that puts some tension on the outside

Does the handle go on deep enough without the pin ??
The sticks help you push only the escutcheon backwards

Succes, Hans

I had a hard time doing that a few weeks ago. I found removing the outer trim and the screws retaining the one under the door handle and window winder just about allowed me to do it in tears of despair. I'm sure an expert would have thought me a complete idiot, but there's no visible damage and both work.

Best of luck

Ashley

I tried the paint sticks with no luck but used a spoke to help line up the hole. I used my method of piano wire (.112) with a notch ground through at about the 3/4" mark. I sharpened the point slightly too. I fitted the handles then wiggled the piano wire into the handle hole. Then I tapped it in with a hammer. Then I twisted the wire slightly and snapped it off. Also, since I have extra handles I polished up what I thought were some better handles and easily removed handles that I had just installed to install ones in better condition. Thanks to all!
