Gaskets for Trunk Lid Hinges

Guys,

I am installing the hinges for my boot lid, and am using the fiber (cardboard like) material gaskets that I got from Moss. I have seen them used on other cars of course, and they are probably the standard, but was wondering if anyone has used anything different.

This gasket material seem to be anything but water tight, and once wet, seem like they will soak up water and deteriorate very quickly.

Is there anther product on the market that is more substantial?

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks so much.

I have molded rubber gaskets that I am pretty sure I bought a few years ago from British Car specialists in Stockton California. Not original but I think a better idea !!

Hope this helps,

John

Bill,

I used the ones from Metro. (Link Below)

Thanks,

I used the Rubber ones from Metro too.

A way to keep the fiber ones in better shape is to fill the voids in the hinge castings with some filler. Silicone sealant works, but anything that doesn't bleed out will work.

Thank you all for the suggestions, I'll probably go with the rubber gaskets. I was not aware of their availability.

My rubber gaskets have been in place since 1982. Can't remember the source.
