TR6 Dunlop 72 spoke wire wheels TR6

I just picked up a set of these from a buddy. He never used them and wasn't sure if they need innertubes. Does anyone know? Can you run tubeless on any wheel so long as you keep good air pressure?

Are all tires compatible with tubes or do I need to be looking a specific style?

"Many of the original Dunlop wire wheels are now being
supplied with sealed spokes. This is to prevent water from entering and creating corrosion between the tube and wheel rim.

However, this doesn’t mean that the wheel is safe to use without tubes.

Rims designed for use without tubes have a safety bump that helps to locate the tire bead under low-inflation conditions. To be safe, tubes should be used with wheels without the safety bump."

Ditto what Roger said. I've got Dayton tubeless as well. The shop that balanced them, told me to always use tubes.

I've also got the Dayton 72's and have always run tehm with tubes and 2 extra tubes in the trunk.

Good luck... in our area it has become nigh impossible to find a shop that will install tubes in a tubeless tire. Don't really understand why, some perceived liability I guess. Anyway, as noted, you'll need tubes.

Be sure they remove any labels from inside the tire before mounting as well as the usual drill for getting tubes in correctly.

Remember just a few years ago, when people were being killed by blowouts on their big 'safe' SUVs ? Every tire maker says it's not safe to put a tube in a tire not rated for use with a tube ... which means that if someone thinks they were hurt by a tire failure, it's going to be the person who put the tube in the tire they will go after. To the tune of millions of $$ per incident, if the Ford/Firestone debacle is any indication.

A common misconception, but not quite accurate. Early "tubeless" rims also did not have safety beads (eg Triumph Stag wheels lack safety beads but were delivered new with tubeless tires).
