Have been driving a few long trips in my BJ8 this summer. Normally I only run shorter runs like 20-30 miles, which doesnt seem to use much oil. Last weekend I went for a 2x180 mile trip and that really lowered the oil level, around one quart, from max to around 20% above min on the oil stick. The oil was almost brand new, so it couldn't be condensation of fuel, water etc. that burned off.
Searched the net for answers and there was several discussions of too much oil squirting under the valve cover could give problems with excessive oil consumption. Removed my valve cover and ran the engine cold, didnt see much squirting. Today I did the same with a hot engine, phew, oil all over the place. It came from the oil supple banjo. Thought the copper washers were worn, but instead the error was the banjo was resting on a nearby washer.
Lets see if that cures the problem.
