ALMOST got the windshield in!

Spent several hours replacing the windshield seal on my BE. I had read in other posts what a bear of a job this is, but with a lot of work, I only had about an inch or so of the seal lip to tuck in. The next sound I heard was Crack, and now I'm ordering a new windshield from Moss. Just can't find any shop around that wants to mess with an old-type windshield. I'll take another "crack" at it again, but the worrying thing is that I won't really be doing anything different the second time. Wish me luck.

Victoria British has windshields on sale for $99.95.....just an FYI.

I guess I'm lucky......there's a local glass place that will install them. I think I paid $50 to have them install one a couple of years ago......money well spent!

Thats a bummer! I'm looking at doing that job soon myself. I'm a bit scared!

Lots of soap.

I had seen other posts that some others had cracked theirs doing the install. I thought I was home free after getting 95% of the job done. I was using lubricant and the "window stick" sold by VIctoria British and had made good but slow progress. I'm viewing this as a test of character (or sanity). Jim

Jim, yo probably have but before you go at this again, make sure there are no protruding screws or sharp edges that you were tightening the windshield onto. You are 99% certain that it was the leverage but just in case....

Thanks, I'll check on any metal protruding in the frame. I didn't really feel like I was putting excessive leverage on the windshield, but I guess you never know with glass.

Thanks also for the heads-up on the Victoria British $99 price on the windshield. Maybe I should order several.

Just take a break and do not let it crack you up..... :jester:

My question is for convertibles cars, or even the GT6, why not put the glass in the frame before mounting the frame to the car? Wouldn't the frame be more flexible and therefore more forgiving on the glass for stress? No experience talking here.

And that is the way it has to be done.

I took my windshield and frame to a local glass shop, where I was given the name of a independent installer. He came out to my house and together, with a lot of soap, a hair dryer, and yes, the VB windshield stick (the installer thought that tool was great) it took about 3 hours to get it in the frame.

I mounted it on the car afterwards by myself.

I'm on record as preferring THREE clutch replacements over doing ONE windscreen R&R!

The job is always High Pucker Country. :eeek:
