Turn Signals Not Working

1963 BJ7 stock wiring. Turn signals worked fine when I got my inspection
sticker, then stopped. All four lights are not working. Sidelamps and brake
lights work. When I move the directional lever on the trafficator, I can hear
a click from the flasher relay at the left front fender. Replaced the Lucas
flasher can with a NAPA 550, still not working. Dash indicator does not work
Any thoughts where to look next?

I had the same problem only when I put on the turn signal it was intermitant on one side and normal on the other. The flasher seemed to overheat and burn up. I pulled the trafficator and adjusted the four wires inside from the wiring harness they must have come into contact with each other replaced the flasher and now they work fine

If you find none of the wires in the tracfficator are touching each other, and they are making good contact, then I'd look into the flasher relay. Let us know what you find to be the problem. Good luck, Roger

I searched the archives before posting. Sounds like you had the exact same symptoms as mine. How did you solve it?

Get onto the relay on the inner front fender and clean up all the wiring contacts, that may do the trick.

Check the "easy things first", like all the associated grounds and wire connections. No need to remove lamps, just check the wiring from behind, don't forget the wiring harness near the dash. I recently inadverntly pulled the red lead out of a connector adjacent, and below, the fuse box.

I searched the archives before posting. Sounds like you had the exact same symptoms as mine. How did you solve it?

I checked everything. Wire connections, ground, trafficator, replaced the flasher unit and opened the flasher relay to see it was an aftermarket modern computer board type. So I figured it can't be the flasher relay, for it's a modern replacement over the orginal points style. My problem went on for over a year, with me rechecking everything, including bulbs. What did I find the problem was? The fasher relay was bad. A friend of mine had an orginal relay he was not using, so I opened it, cleaned it and installed it. Problem found and fixed. Ta Da!

I have a similar problem with my 1959 Austin Healey 100-6. I bought it recently. The previous owner didn't drive it much. Since I bought it I've had to fix a lot of things. Among the things I had to change was all the wiring as nothing electrical was working and the wiring was in very bad condition. Everything works now but the turn signals only come on but don't blink. Thanks in advance

Just found out I have the same problem, no indicator lights. Is there a way I can check the flasher unit before I purchase a new one and replace it? (it is not a cost factor, just looking for a quick way to diagnose the problem).
