TR2/3/3A TR6 Front Suspension A-Arms on a TR3A?

Always wanted to experiment with putting a set of TR6 front A-arms on my TR3A to see how the 3-degree caster angle would work with the stock steering box (not rack-and-pinion conversion). Has anyone out there done it? What were the results? Would change over to the lighter TR6 front brake calipers (etc.) at the same time. Thanks!

Lots of people do this. I'm contemplating it myself. Besides the upper "A" arms, you'll need the 3° trunnions from a TR4 and the ball joint to go with the "A" arms. The results are that the steering will center itself if there is no steering input, whereas with the 0° caster on the TR3 the steering will pretty much stay where you put it. As far as the TR6 calipers go, you'll also need the caliper mounting brackets from the TR6 (actually, I think late TR4 and up should fit) and possibly the mounting bolts as they changed during production.

I changed to the TR6 caliper brackets for use with the four piston Toyota calipers. I also had to use the later TR6 (metric) mounting bolts.

It will make the steering harder...more force turning away from center. So adding a rack and pinion mod may be a good idea too.

No real reference on the modification that I've yet found, but given the bolt-on interchangeability of Triumph parts and the method that Triumph used to create the caster angle (asymmetrical upper A-arm bracket halves), it just looked like something that ought to work. For the parts, I just watched Ebay until somebody was selling a set of complete left and right front suspension components from a TR6 for a decent price. The grease and road dirt was free. Putting the later components on the TR3 is a project for the future, though, as I haven't yet had the time for the installation.

I got my mods from RevingtonTR. Some minor welding needed, but directions for the installation are very clear.
