Polyurethane bushings on BJ8 - Good or Bad idea

I am in the process of replacing some of the suspension bushings on my BJ8. There seems to be some difference of opinion regarding their worth on a road car. Anyone have experience with poly bushings in their cars, positive or negative?

I have them in mine, but honestly, I'd be hesitant to recommend them.

They do tighten up the suspension (not to be confused with stiffening) but I think there needs to be *some* compliance in the lower/inner A-arm bushes. I doubt they would have any negative effect on the front swaybar mounting blocks or the upper/outer trunion bush.

OH, and they will wear much faster than the OE rubber bushes, though probably not such an issue on our sunny day only cars (unless you live in SoCal or Arizona...).

I decided against them for the same reasons as Randy and also that they can make "popping" sounds. I went with a set of bushings from Toms Imports, https://tomsimport.com/new/parts/parts.asp?sect=2&new=1 which come from AH Spares in England. Some of the other parts sources made it difficult to understand what I was getting and Tom made it simple. You'll like his service too. (No financial interest...just a satisfied customer).

Tom has some great stuff.
I liked the large wiring diagrams and the tie down hooks.
I was also quite satisfied... again, no financial interest.

I believe the ones I saw were white and and looked weird. I like the old style rubber ones. The trick is not to tighten them too much or they will wear too fast (OK cause the are cheap and easy to replace). Not tight enough and you get sloppy handling. I'm not sure about the poly ones but tighten the rubber ones until the just begin to bulge.

I've removed poly bushings from performance cars due to squeaking & other issues. Used Poly-graphite bushings & not had any problems, not sure if they are available for Healey's. cheers Genos2
