Painting the Jag.

The XF is only fifteen years of age but nature has started to reclaim her. Bubbling it at the lower edges. So I decided to take action and repair all the rust bubbles. Also side skirts are stone chipped real bad.
So off with the front bumper. Side skirts. Followed by head lights and front wings.
Re rusted and first wing painted. Fresh out the gun.

May I ask what paint you used and what color?

the colour is lunar grey
I used a spirit base base coat, followed by 2K clearcoat.
I always put an extra coat on for the mop. especialy when i cant spray in a booth, allows for a bit of rubbing down to get all the nibs off.
plus the extra coat when applied dirrectly on top of the previous coat lies flatter,
In a booth when it is baked you dont need the extra coat as it flattens as it heats up.

Spirit base base coat suggests water base paint? Brand name?

"Lechler" was the brand name of both base and clear coats,
I already had 10 ltr of clearcoat so only needed to buy the base from a local supplier,
it was not water base, takes too long to dry outside of the boothe, as it requires a lot of warm airflow over it to dry, this doesnt happen very well
outside as the last thing you want is all the crap in the wind contaminating the paint, where spirit base evaporates quickly in a warm environment
without airflow so gives it less chance to get contaminated.
There are restrictions here in the UK, if you use over a certain tonnage of paint then you have to use water base.
so mr joe bloggs like me is ok to use sirit base.
