I don't care what the books say. I took the front end off my engine this morning and there is no provision on the timeing chain sproket for chain tensioners. According to the book there should be a lip to mount the rubber rings on each side of the sproket, no lip folks. Wasted effort but now we know.
Must have been a change from the orginial engine/sproket although the parts manual plainly states 948 and 1098.
Guess there are lots of Bugeyes running around without the tensioner. Knew I had never used that part in the past, I just knew it. Now I know why.
Oh yea anti seze on the front bolt worked as advertised think I will put a bit on the pully as well and now is the time to move the timeing mark up to the top where I can see it. Thanks Hap for the tip.
