Mine sits high on the left also. It always has. I put a new seal in after we painted the car and it sits even higher. I learned to live with it, but if you find a fix, please let me know.
Mine also rides high on the left. I always attributed it to the fact that that's the side the prop rod pushes on. I somebody careless pulled on the trunk lid, it would tend to twist it to the right.
I would think either the handle, or the striker are adjustable by loosening attachment screws/bolts to pull the lid down further when latched! Bending anything would not be recommended except as the LAST resort!!!
I had this proiblem too. One side always higher than the other, no matter how many ways I tweaked it. I finally used a fiberglass lid and problem solved.
I just replaced the trunk lid seal with a new gasket from Mxxx. I've got the same issue with trunk lid sits up on the left side/ Lid fit perfectly before. I think it's a case of Mxxx seals and gaskets not being worth a cr__!!!
This isn't a simple extruded seal. I'll bet if precise measurements were done the seal is not totally symetric. It is not the same from side to side.
I need to find a source for a seal that fits. Reread the thread. All of them have trouble with lid fitting on the left side. That says gasket just might be the issue in that there is something different or needs to be different with thickness of gasket on the left side of the trunk lid.
My lid was sitting high on the left as well, stuck a folded beach towel on the right and assorted weights on the left,
left it over night and trunk lid fits fine.
Just make sure you don't let other people close the lid, that's when it gets bent out of shape again...
Jim, I am not a betting man but........... I bet that the trunk lock on one side has caused the deck to be bent over the last 40 years. If it is off the car and flat on the garage floor is it flat? I should think not.
But then I have been known to be wrong. According to my wife in any case, LOL.
