Heater Motor

The heater motor I ordered from TRF is still on backorder, and they don't expect them in before the New Year /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

This is really holding me up now, because replacing the heater box is the first thing I need to do before I can continue replacing the rest of the dash and controls etc..

Does anyone know of an alternative source for these motors? Does anyone have a spare used motor they'd like to sell?

Thanks!

Do you have the old one? I have had great luck with local shops that specialize in rewiring motors. If you are lucky there is one of them where you are and thye can rebuild it for you. You would be surprised at the majic they can work. Let your fingers do the walking and look in the yellow pages.

I agree with Adrio, there are many motor rewind shops in the LA area, it is just a matter of finding one willing to take on such a small job.

Julian, do you happen to know if the TR6 heater motor is the same as any other Triumphs. I think I have motors from a Spitfire, TR4, and Stag in my collection. Plus of course a TR3 but I know it's different.

Moss lists the same part for the TR6 motor as the TR4-4A 635-580

It's TRF part REP405. Moss part 635-580. According to the Moss catalogue it's also for the TR4. So, if you have one from a TR4 I'm definitely interested /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'll climb up in the attic tomorrow and look for that heater then. No idea what condition it's in, but it ran when I got it.

Julian,

Have you seen this yet on Paul's (Brosky) site?
https://www.74tr6.com/heater.htm

Nice job Paul!

Yes, I've looked through that a few times: nice document. In fact my motor doesn't look quite the same as Paul's. For example, the wires come out of a single hole at the side. Also, unlike the various wiring diagrams I've seen, the ground wire on mine is white, not black. I've taken a few photos, and will put them up on my web site once I've finished completing the box.

Julian, I wonder if the white ground might make yours a positive ground motor?

Interesting question ... I seem to remember the polarity being marked on the heater case ... but I will check when I get home.

The ground wire on my motor is also white. The wiring diagram in my "Owner's Handbook" doesn't show a color for that wire. It seems that some may have been black and some white.

Dan Masters shows it as Black. I'm relieved that yours is white, too - anyone else have a white one?!

Julian- Many where white. Mine is a 71 and it was white. I bought the heavier #16 wires from Dan and resoldier them to the "whatcha call it thingy" and changed the white to black.

Look on ebay. Auction #30004097818 expires tomorrow (Saturday). Opening bid of $9.99, shipping at $6.99.

Thanks Doug!
