Well, I leaned up the fuel and my TR3 is still hard to start
after its warmed up.
Starts fine cold. (Without choke?)
I noticed my oil filler cap filter was filthy. (mesh-style filament.)
Any connection with starting?
It smokes quite a bit from oil filler cap and blowby pipe.

If you can start fine cold with no choke, it is still rich. I could crank mine all day without starting if my choke is off cold. I don't think the blowby or dirty cap is contributing to the start problem...unless fouled plugs are to blame.

I suffered at hot start problem for 2-3 years until I dis overed an unqualified mechanic adjusted my carbs far far roo rich. Now I adjust myself using a Colortune plug and its never run better.

Like you it would start fine cold no choke. Would not start hot. Nearly killed the starter trying. Check the plugs and if you are getting dark smoke from the tail pipe when accelerating.

For this reason I also now track my mpg for no other reason than to detect changes in set up or performance.
